WEBSTER, N.Y. – Construction is well underway on the new fairlife dairy facility in Webster, and one viewer asked News10NBC’s Emily Putnam if any changes will be made to the surrounding roads to accommodate traffic for the $650 million plant.

Fairlife broke ground on its new 745,000-square-foot dairy facility in Webster in April 2024 and it will only be a few more months before it’s done. News10NBC heard from the New York State and Monroe County Departments of Transportation, the Town of Webster, and fairlife to see how they’re preparing for the opening of the new facility and the traffic that will come along with it.
Mary asks: “Is the Town of Webster or the State going to do anything as far as upgrading Basket Road or the Basket Road/104 intersection to accommodate the increased traffic and the large milk tanker trucks that will be using that route once the plant opens?”
The Town of Webster says a right turn pocket from Basket Road to Rt. 104 was identified as a way to mitigate traffic during a review required by the state.
News10NBC didn’t see any turn pockets under construction when we visited, and the state says that decision is up to the town. However, Monroe County just finished a fiber mat pavement preservation treatment project on all 3.3 miles of Basket Road. Fairlife sits in the middle of that stretch. The county says it chose fibermat specifically for the Fairlife project, adding that this treatment creates a durable, waterproof, and crack resistant surface.
Fairlife expects construction on the facility to be done by the end of this year and production will ramp up early next year. Right now, the company is looking to hire more than 100 people. It’s holding a couple of job fairs next week and in September. You’ll find hiring details here.
