A 14-year-old boy was ordered detained after leading Bloomingdale police officers in a high-speed chase Tuesday night.
The teenager, who wasn’t named because he is a juvenile, was allegedly seen driving a stolen Hyundai Elantra near Glen Ellyn Road and Edgewater Drive, according to the Bloomingdale Police Department.
When officers attempted to pull him over around 11:15 p.m., the teen drove off and reached speeds of over 80 mph, police said. The teen allegedly evaded traffic, passed other cars and ran a red light.
Officers followed the teen to Army Trail Road, where the teen drove over spike strips, lost a tire and T-boned another vehicle as he attempted to turn onto Walter Street, police said. The teen was arrested after a short foot chase.
The teen and the driver of the vehicle he crashed into were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were both treated and released.
The teen was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer. DuPage County Judge Chantelle Porter ordered the teen held at a detention hearing Wednesday morning.
