We know how good Helsley can be all too well as Cubs fans. At least he’s gone from the Cardinals now, and I suppose it’s worth noting that he hasn’t been quite as dominant this year (3.00 ERA, 3.51 FIP).
Of course, that’s the flip side of this. The Cardinals get to benefit from picking up a trio of prospects for their rental closer who was likely to walk anyway. Báez is a top-10 prospect in the Mets’ system, Dohm is top-15, and Ellisalt was just drafted last year but is having a promising debut. It’s a series of good gets for the Cardinals.
And the Mets, again, get a lot better in that NL East race AND the top-two-record race, to the extent that becomes relevant later this year.
