Trey McBride, takeaways highlight Day 6 of Cardinals training camp ...Middle East

GLENDALE — Back-to-back days of Arizona Cardinals padded training camp practices (and “friction”) definitely cranked up the heat this week, with the intensity and physicality reaching new levels.

Cardinals tight end Trey McBride only stoked the flames with his best day of camp so far.

Kicking off Tuesday with some spirited 1-on-1 work against safety Budda Baker, McBride’s energy bled into early 11-on-11s, highlighted by one of his best moments of camp through six days.

Come for the catch. Stay for the reaction.

Move over to red zone work? Different drill, same McBride.

Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. continues to be the most talked about offensive weapon this camp following his noticeable transformation both physically and mentally, especially when he turns in reps like he has the past two days of padded practice.

But don’t forget about McBride, Arizona’s top receiving threat from last season who is still very much on the ascent.

Cardinals defense stacking days

Monday’s first padded practice belonged to the Cardinals’ first-team defense, which recorded its first interception of camp and caused fits for quarterback Kyler Murray in the backfield.

And while the offense had a few moments, Tuesday marked a lot of the same with the defense again getting after Murray and the offense.

It didn’t take long, either, with Cardinals safety Jalen Thompson reeling in Murray’s second interception of camp during first-team red zone work.

It marked the first pick of camp for Arizona’s defensive backs after MIKE backer Mack Wilson Sr. got the better of Murray the day prior.

The takeaways didn’t end there.

Moving over to 7-on-7s, Murray again coughed up the rock, this time to cornerback Max Melton. In both instances, Murray was looking for McBride.

A day like Tuesday, especially when looking at Arizona’s negative turnover ratio last season (-3), is exactly what you want to see for this defense.

“Shoot, we all coming together,” pass rusher Josh Sweat said. “We all care about each other and we going to do it for one another.”

Wilson and Melton being in on the pair also helps breed more confidence in two players that are expected to have more on their plates in 2025.

That couldn’t be more evident with Melton, who is locked into the first-team defense even more following the season-ending knee injury to cornerback Starling Thomas V.

It wasn’t just Murray putting the ball in harm’s way, though.

Backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett turned in his most inconsistent practice of camp on Tuesday, highlighted by a near-interception by cornerback Elijah Jones during second-team red zone work.

But before you grab your pitchforks, days like these are going to happen for both sides of the football.

As Gannon said ahead of the Day 6 work, there are ebbs and flows for every training camp.

“There’s a back and forth. It’s training camp, you know what I mean?” he said. “Defense makes some plays, offense makes some plays.”

Isaiah Adams showing the grit needed at RG

On Tuesday, he certainly looked the part.

There’s still plenty of camp and preseason ball to get to, but Adams has done a good job alleviating some of the concerns at right guard.

Off day on the way
