Authorities say that a pair of siblings lied to police on the night of a fatal crash in suburban Beach park last year.
It is alleged that Jordan Ricks, 29, and his sister Asia Ricks, 23, lied to police to conceal the circumstances of the crash because the driver of the vehicle had been drunk at the time of the collision that left a 56-year-old motorcyclist dead.
Both siblings now face felony charges in connection to the crash, which occurred on Oct. 18, 2024.
According to authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. A motorcycle was being driven southbound on Green Bay Road by the 56-year-old man, who was traveling at a high rate of speed according to eyewitnesses.
It is alleged that a sedan, which was purportedly being driven by Jordan Ricks, attempted to turn left off of Green Bay Road and onto Chaplin Street, and that is where the motorcycle slammed into the passenger side of the vehicle.
The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Jordan and Asia Ricks did not require hospitalization, police had said at the time.
An investigation into the crash revealed inconsistencies that led police to question what had actually occurred. It is alleged that Asia’s injuries were not consistent with where she had told police she was seated in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and the damage to the vehicle was also not consistent with her version of events leading up to the crash.
Police now believe that it was Asia behind the wheel of the vehicle at the time of the crash, and that her brother Jordan had not been in the vehicle at all when the crash took place. Instead, it is alleged he traveled to the scene from his home, and told police that he had been driving in an effort to conceal that Asia had been driving under the influence at the time of the collision.
Both siblings now face felony charges of obstruction of justice, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. Both have turned themselves in for questioning in connection with the crash.
