Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez was hit in the right hand by a pitch and exited the game on Monday at the Detroit Tigers.
Suarez faced Tigers reliever Will Vest in the ninth inning, and Vest delivered a high-and-inside sinker at 96 mph that caught him. Suarez jumped up and shook his hand out. After a quick evaluation from the athletic trainer, Suarez quickly pulled his hand back and headed for the dugout.
The ballgame ended two batters later, as the D-backs fell 5-1. Arizona dropped to a season-worst five games under .500 at 51-56.

Diamondbacks (Suarez in particular) getting hit by pitches up-and-in has been an unsightly theme of the summer. Corbin Carroll went on the injured list after such an instance last month, and Suarez was hit in the hand by White Sox pitcher Shane Smith twice, once in the All-Star Game.
The timing is a significant element of this situation, as the trade deadline is on Thursday and Suarez is considered the top power hitter on the market.
The Tigers, ironically, have been tied to Suarez in trade rumors, as the veteran fielded questions about the deadline before Monday’s game.
This is a developing story.
