A MAJOR retailer with pharmacies all over the country is set to close more stores.
And it’s part of the company’s $1 billion cost-cutting program that will see 1,200 stores shut their doors for good.

The location at 6442 N. 76th St. is set to permanently close July 28 while its pharmacy closed on July 1.
The location at 819 Memorial Drive in Racine is set to shut down on August 5.
The pharmacy at the store at 275 W. Wisconsin Ave. shut down July 21. The rest of the store will remain open.
Those who get their prescriptions from these stores will have them automatically transferred to a nearby Walgreens.
They will be notified of the location by mail.
And they’ll also be eligible for a free 90-day delivery service. They can speak with their pharmacist to discuss how to sign up for this service.
“When closures are necessary, we work in partnership with community stakeholders to minimize customer disruptions,” Walgreens said in a statement.
A LITTLE HISTORY
The Walgreens closures are part of an initiative to shut down 1,200 stores throughout the country by 2027.
500 Walgreens locations are set to close this year, according to the company’s fiscal 2024 earnings report released last October.
“We will continue to execute our previously announced turnaround plan to stabilize our retail pharmacy operations, which includes our store footprint optimization program,” Walgreens said in its statement.
The chain currently has more than 8,500 stores remaining in operation.
But it’s not the only prominent retailer looking to close doors throughout the country.
PHARMACY DESERTS
Rite Aid is set to close more than 1,000 stores this year after declaring its second bankruptcy in May.
CVS has its eyes set on shuttering 900 stores as part of a multi-year operation.
The family-owned Central Drug Store in the Excelsior District of San Francisco, California closed on July 15 following more than 117 years in service at the same location.
These closures come as experts warn of “pharmacy deserts” across America.
