For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Nathaniel Grannis, who was ranked #3 for the class of 2025 on SwimSwam’s top 10 diving list, has announced his commitment to compete for Purdue University beginning in the fall of 2025.

“I’m so stoked to announce my verbal commitment to dive at Purdue! A huge thank you to my family, coaches and friends for supporting me in everything that led me here! So excited to join the Purdue family!”

Grannis recently graduated from Woodson High School in Fairfax, Virginia, where he competed for the varsity swimming and diving team all four years. As a Cavalier, Grannis was a two-time state champion; he won the 1-meter diving (11 dives) event at both the VHSL Class 6 State Championship in both 2024 and 2025, posting scores of 582.50 and 578.25 points, respectively.

He received All-America honors four years in a row, being named to the NISCA All-American diving lists from 2022-2025.

Grannis has shone at a number of regional, national and international events over the years. Last summer, he competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Knoxville, where he placed 6th (665.43 points) in the men’s 3-meter synchronized event alongside partner Joshua Sollenberger. Grannis was the youngest diver at the competition.

He is a two-time TeamUSA member at the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships. In 2024, Grannis placed 10th in the boys’ 16-18 10-meter synchronized with partner Misha Andriyuk, while he placed 8th in the boys’ 14-15 1-meter springboard and 23rd in the boys’ 14-15 platform event back in 2022.

In June, Grannis competed at the Canada Cup of Diving, where he won bronze in the men’s 3-meter synchronized alongside partner Ivor Brown.

A Division I program in the Big Ten Conference, Purdue boasts one of the country’s top diving programs, with senior diver Jordan Rzepka picking up the Boilers’ only two medals in swimming or diving at the men’s 2025 Big Ten Conference Championships in February. Purdue went on to send six athletes to the Men’s NCAA Division I Championships, with five of them being divers.

This past season saw the Boilers’ diving legacy continue despite significant coaching changes, as longtime diving coach Adam Soldati stepped down at the end of the 2023-2024 season after 19 years with Purdue following an ALS diagnosis. The program is now helmed by four-time Olympic medalist David Boudia, who is also a Purdue alum and joined the staff as an assistant diving coach back in 2021.

Grannis began diving at the age of four in the Northern Virginia Swimming League summer program. He spent the past 10 years training under coaches Jenni Brown and Stephanie Sutton at Dominion Dive Club, which has fostered diving talent since its opening in 2007. He now has one of the strongest competition lists in his class, and should be a top contributor for the Boilers when he arrives on campus this fall.

Set to join Grannis in Indiana are Nate Temeles (free), Janis Deivs Dzirkalis (fly/back/free), Jonah Lee (breast/fly), Biko Hooper-Haviland (free/fly), Brody LePine (fly/back/free), Matthew Rose (free) and Jonny Hines (free). Grannis appears to be the only diver committed for the upcoming season.
