ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester hosted its first ever “Christmas in July,” event Friday.
The event was created to bring some mid-year cheer to families, especially the siblings of children currently receiving treatment in the hospital. It featured things such as cookie decorating, ugly sweater crafting, yard games, and visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Organizers say they hope the event brings joy to families during this challenging time.
“When you have a child that’s critically ill or injured and in care, your world stops,” said JoAnne Ryan, president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities. “And the challenge around that, if you have other children, is that their world doesn’t. So the ability to put our arms around the entire family and find some time to give them a little chance to be back at a baseline, even if its momentarily, is really what we are trying to accomplish here.”
The charity also used this opportunity to encourage donations from the community. Every donation the charity gets helps families who travel to Syracuse for medical care.
Household items, snacks, gift cards, and more are always welcome. To learn more about donating and about the charity, click here.
