Irondequoit family murder: Drug investigation affidavit surfaces ...Middle East

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. – New developments have emerged in the shocking quadruple murder case in Irondequoit. Julio Soriano, one of the suspects, appeared in court Wednesday with a trial date set for February. His brother, Luis Soriano, is being extradited from the Dominican Republic and is scheduled for arraignment in Rochester on Friday.

The Soriano brothers are accused of murdering their cousin, his wife, and their two young children before setting their Knapp Avenue home on fire. Prosecutors aim to try the brothers together for the murders that occurred last year.

News10NBC’s Declan Stablow reported from the scene of the murders, where an affidavit revealed a drug investigation linked to the suspects. Investigators stated that at least two people sent cocaine from Puerto Rico to the murder site and a neighboring home.

Rafael Gilbert-Guerrero faces charges of conspiracy to possess and intent to distribute cocaine. He was arrested in Florida earlier this month. The affidavit indicated that authorities in Puerto Rico seized a package last August containing three bricks of cocaine and a GPS tracker addressed to the murder site. The name on the package did not match any of the victims.

Authorities also discovered packages at a neighboring house and an address in Rochester. It remains unclear if the drug activity is connected to the murders. The prosecutor in the case, Perry Duckles, acknowledged the affidavit and emphasized the focus on the murder case.

“This is a murder case from the town of Irondequoit, and that’s how we’re treating it,” Duckles said. “We’re trying not to get distracted by any of the outside chatter.”

Officials believe Gilbert-Guerrero provided the addresses to another man, Jose Santos-Paniagua, whose fingerprints were found on several packages. Santos-Paniagua was arrested in Puerto Rico in February.

The tragic events began on Aug. 31, 2024 when firefighters responded to a fire on Knapp Avenue. The bodies of Fraime Ubaldo, his wife Marangely Moreno-Santiago, and their children, Evangeline and Sebastian, ages 2 and 4, were discovered in the basement.

Julio Soriano was arrested days after the murders, while Luis Soriano was apprehended last month in the Dominican Republic. Julio’s next hearing is in November, with the trial set for February.
