Hit the sweet spot at Comic-Con with Convention Center’s specialty chocolate bars ...Middle East

News by : (Times of San Diego) -

San Diego Convention Center has a new slate of limited-edition chocolate bars on sale for Comic-Con International. A total of 7,500 handcrafted bars were made by the Convention Center’s culinary team to be sold over the four-day event. Plus, four lucky buyers will find a golden ticket inside, redeemable for a $100 Starbucks gift card.

Before the giant international convention, Sodexo Live! Executive Chef Sufi Karaien and Pastry Chef Molly Pease work together to create new flavors of chocolate bars. The culinary treats incorporate multiple ingredients, harmonizing them into whimsical desserts.

This year’s four flavors include one dark chocolate, one white chocolate and two milky bases – an improvement from past years with too much super sweet white chocolate. The ingredients range from fortune cookies to potato chips and brownie brittle.

After finalizing this year’s chocolate bars, a creative team, comprised of Hailey Adams, Grayson Van Loon and Dylan James, develops the themes for the bars then creates imaginative names and illustrations. Comic-Con attendees can go to outer space with the Flying Saucer, visit Petco Park with the Home Run Bar, head into the epic wilderness with Saga of the S’mores and enjoy the pop cultural celebration of Comic-Con with Pop Star Party.

The Times of San Diego newsroom taste-tested the limited-edition bars. Here are our favorites, ranked with descriptions.

Flying Saucer mixes dark and light flavors in a milk chocolate vehicle full of coffee beans, toffee and brownie brittle. To the newsroom, this gravity-defying mix hit the sweet spot with its yummy flavors. Home Run Bar knocks it out of the park, especially for those who hate cloying sugar. The salty game-day snacks bring out the dark chocolate. Multiple people liked the crunchy, salty combo of pretzels, pecans and potato chips. Saga of the S’mores brings the traditional campfire treat into a milk chocolate bar. Toasted marshmallows and graham crackers bring ultra sugar to this childhood fav, cut by sea salt. Pop Star Party is perfect for non-chocolate fans. The white chocolate bar is dusted in pink glitter and tastes like a pop tart or strawberry ice cream bars, according to my coworkers. The creamy strawberry center is surrounded by crunchy puffed rice and fortune cookie pieces.

The chocolate bars will be sold in Lobby 20 at the Craft Chocolate Bar booth from July 24 through 27 for $10 each.

City officials estimate Comic-Con will bring at least $160 million to the region over the long weekend.
