IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. – The House of Guitars in Irondequoit reflected on the life and legacy of heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne following his death.
Known as the “Prince of Darkness,” Osbourne rose to fame in the 1970s as the lead singer of Black Sabbath.
Osbourne’s career was marked by numerous achievements, including Grammy Awards, a reality TV show, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Despite his success, his legacy was not without controversy, as he faced accusations of being a negative influence on teens and worshiping Satan, which he always denied.
Osbourne visited the House of Guitars three times over the years. A vintage commercial from the store’s 20th anniversary celebration in 1984 shows Osbourne signing records and meeting fans alongside other legendary metal bands.
Armand Schaubroeck, co-founder of the House of Guitars, recalled Osbourne’s visits.
“I remember he was real nervous the first time he was here. He was shaking a little, and I asked him about it. He said, ‘Well, I’m not quite used to people being so close to me,'” Schaubroeck said.
“I was saying, ‘Ozzy, your show sold out on Ticketmaster, Rochester’s show is sold out, no more tickets.’ And then he jumps in the air and makes his signs, and all the crowd is cheering. He shares it, you know, he’s jumping up and down. ‘Our concert is sold out in Rochester!’ He’s like a kid!” said Schaubroeck.
Despite facing health challenges, including Parkinson’s disease, Osbourne performed at a Black Sabbath farewell concert just weeks ago. He was 76 years old.
