D-backs’ Eugenio Suarez paces ESPN’s top MLB trade deadline candidates ...Middle East

Sport by : (Arizona sports) -

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez’s second half of the season couldn’t have started much better.

Smashing four home runs across the past two games, the third baseman has quickly risen up the ranks as a potential top trade target with the MLB deadline closing in.

Ask ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan, though, and Suarez is the top name to watch right now among the analyst’s top 50 trade candidates released Monday.

Suárez is in a contract year and playing like one of the best players in baseball. … Despite turning 34 years old before the trade deadline, Suárez is sitting near career highs in isolated power and wRC+ (which measures overall offensive performance). His fielding metrics have declined in recent years, but he’s still an acceptable defender at third base. Even if the Diamondbacks don’t offload all their free agents-to-be, Suárez could be moved because they’ve got Jordan Lawlar raking in Triple-A and primed to take over at third.

The two analysts add Suarez has a 90% chance at being dealt, which also ranks first among trade candidates.

Diamondbacks dominate Cardinals for much-needed sweep to show their pulse

Suarez has been one of Arizona’s biggest bright spots across an up-and-down season, slashing .257/.328/.601 with a .928 OPS entering play Monday. The 2025 All-Star sits third in MLB with 35 home runs behind only New York’s Aaron Judge and Seattle’s Cal Raleigh and paces the league in RBIs with 85.

But while he continues to be a subject in trade chatter around the league with Arizona sitting at or around .500 for most of the season, Suarez remains focused on making a run in Arizona.

“I think we’ve got a chance,” Suarez told reporters as Arizona returned for the second half of the season this week. “I trust in this group. I think we got a really good group, but we just gotta keep going, support each other and play good baseball and change our mentality and try to win games starting today. … I believe in my team. The D-backs are gonna be back and get hot again.”

ESPN’s best fits for Eugenio Suarez at the MLB trade deadline

As for the best fits for Suarez if the D-backs decide to offload the third baseman, the two analysts named six teams:

– New York Yankees – Chicago Cubs – Seattle Mariners – Milwaukee Brewers – Detroit Tigers – San Francisco 49ers

Which other Diamondbacks joined Suarez on Passan’s ranking?

Alongside Suarez on the trade candidates list included starting pitchers Zac Gallen (No. 12) and Merrill Kelly (13) and first baseman Josh Naylor (14).

McDaniel and Passan give each of the trio a 70% chance at being moved.

Much like Suarez, they’re in contract years this season.

Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said the team does not plan to deal away players at the deadline, but if Arizona doesn’t make a run, it could reap a huge return with all its impending free agents.

The Diamondbacks are back in action Monday against the Houston Astros. First pitch is slated for 6:40 p.m. and can be heard on the Arizona Sports app, 98.7 and ArizonaSports.com.
