CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Casey Murphy, a Canandaigua man who pleaded guilty to assault related to a dog attack, avoided jail time and was sentenced to probation.
Murphy was also ordered to pay restitution and perform community service. The attack took place in August 2024 when Murphy was caring for someone else’s dog. The dog escaped and attacked a man who was trying to protect his 10-year-old son.
Prosecutors said the victim has lifelong injuries.
Police said the dog has previously attacked others, and the owner has been cited. The dog’s owner, Madison Herendeen, is scheduled to go on trial Sept. 2.
