A $5.5 million federal grant will contribute to berth repairs at the Port of San Diego‘s National City Marine Terminal, it was announced Wednesday.
The grant comes by way of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration through its America’s Marine Highway Program. The AMH program “supports efforts to expand waterborne freight service across the U.S.,” according to a port statement.
“We’re grateful to our federal and regional partners for their continued support and investment in maritime infrastructure. The port’s National City Marine Terminal is a vital resource to our region and beyond,” said Danielle Moore, chair of the Board of Port Commissioners.
The agency has allocated its $9.7 million local match – previously approved by the agency’s board as part of its Economic Recovery Program in 2021.
The National City Marine Terminal handles cargo such as automobiles and breakbulk commodities.
