WNBA fans finally got to see Caitlin Clark face off against No. 1 pick Paige Bueckers — and the veteran came out on top.
Bueckers scored a team-high 21 points at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, but the Dallas Wings were outclassed 102-83 by the Indiana Fever.
Paige Bueckers will be compared to Clark at every possible opportunityClark, who missed the Fever’s previous win over the Wings with injury, put up 14 points and 13 assists in 25 minutes as she continues to ramp up her return.
That saw the sophomore guard set a new WNBA record for fastest player to reach 200 points and 100 assists in a single season, having played just 12 games so far.
Bueckers turned the ball over four times, while Clark had five steals. She now has two games with at least 14 points, 13 assists, and five steals.
The only other player to manage it is Alyssa Thomas — and the Phoenix Mercury standout has never repeated the feat.
One reporter picked up on the stats, which led to an awkward exchange between the rival superstars.
“I think a few of the four turnovers were picked off by Caitlin. Was there any particular that you saw maybe she was kind of a step ahead? It seemed like she was jumping the passing lanes a few times,” he asked.
“Yeah,” Bueckers replied, before pausing for a couple of seconds.
“I mean, you answered it. She’s a very smart basketball player so she’ll get out and deny passing lanes and make catches difficult. But, yeah.”
Fans were divided in the replies, with some insisting the question was disrespectful and others adamant that it was fair game.
“Just rubbing her nose in it. Good on PB for not going Bill Belichick on the fool,” wrote one.

“I love that she and CC complement each other, there’s real respect when game recognizes game,” a third noted.
“They asked cc about Paige after the game … that’s how it goes,” a fourth suggested.
Bueckers is averaging 18.1 points this season — more than Clark’s 16.7 in an injury-hit campaign.
But the Wings are 6-16 as the supporting cast in Dallas is nowhere near as strong as with the Fever, who went big over the offseason to build around the Rookie of the Year.
Clark, who received an apology from a reporter over an awkward exchange of her own in 2024, was impressed with what she saw of her fellow No. 1 pick.
“Paige just plays way older than she is,” said the former Iowa icon. “She’s confident. She’s smooth.
“She does everything at a high-level and (her game) has translated really well — just like everyone knew it would.”
Before the game, Indiana head coach Stephanie White suggested the rival guards could be forming an iconic rivalry.
“Everybody wants to see star players,” she said. “Think about who tunes in to watch LeBron vs. Steph (Curry), right? It’s those kinds of matchups. To watch Caitlin and Paige go against each other for the first time in their WNBA careers is going to be special.”
Clark has won the battle, the war could take a decade to be settled.
The real winners could be the entire WNBA.
Clark and Angel Reese’s epic feud has captured plenty of attention, Bueckers is a star and there are plenty more challengers waiting in the wings with a stacked draft class expected in 2026.
