A suburban woman was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital after being injured in a boating accident along the Tippecanoe River in north central Indiana, authorities said.
The accident was reported at around 7 p.m. on Saturday outside the town of Buffalo, approximately 35 miles north of Lafayette. According to authorities, the driver of the boat struck a submerged dredge pipe while in the dredge operation zone. The boat came to a sudden stop, causing some of the riders to be thrown overboard, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said in a news release.
A 39-year-old Glenview woman was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, authorities stated. She was listed in stable condition after sustaining facial injuries. The boat’s operator, a 76-year-old Glenview man, was taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette for treatment.
Five others, three adults and two children, were taken to IU Health White Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. An investigation into the incident remained ongoing as of Sunday evening.
