CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – People around the country are coming together to support the community in Kerr County, Texas, after the flash flooding that killed at least 120 people and left 170 still missing.
The Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department raised over $2,000 in just two hours during a drive in Canandaigua on Saturday morning. All of the money will go toward rescue and recovery efforts in Texas. Cheshire Fire Lt. Rick Roxin organized the drive.
“We know from the recent flooding down there that police, other fire departments, and other first responders really have their hands full initially with the rescue, now with the recovery,” Roxin said. “And we just felt that we wanted to do something for out fellow firefighters and first responders there.”
Fire Chief Chris Brown said it’s inspiring to see so many people come out and support complete strangers.
