Potentially dangerous storms accompanied by damaging winds and hail were possible in the Chicago area on Friday night as a tornado threat loomed over the region.
A tornado watch was issued until 11 p.m. for the following Chicago-area counties: DeKalb, LaSalle, Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties.
Areas to the west of Chicago appear to be in the biggest risk area for severe weather, according to the National Weather Service. There, some suburbs are in an “enhanced” risk for severe storms, a level three of out five. Other parts of the Chicago area sit in the “slight” risk category, a level two of five.
