COLMA, Calif. (KRON) -- The sanitation workers' strike affecting parts of the Bay Area has entered its fourth day, leaving trash to pile up in several cities.
In Colma, residents are being directed to drop off their trash at the city's Corporation Yard on 601 F Street, as no garbage trucks will be operating Friday. The corporation yard in Colma will remain open until 8 p.m. for trash drop-off.
"It's not fair. What do you see? Nobody wants to see this mess. Big problem for our community. It's terrible. It's terrible. I never seen this before," said Ramon Chavez, a resident of Colma.
Meanwhile, in Fremont, substitute drivers have been brought in to resume garbage collection, starting with customers who normally have their trash picked up on Tuesdays.
Fremont residents and businesses have the option to drop off their trash at the city's Recycling and Transfer Station.
The chief shop steward at the Stockton Republic Landfill stated, "After we walked, Teamsters from locals all over the Bay Area joined us by honoring our picket lines. The company is hurting because of our unity. That's the firepower we need to win the contract we deserve."
The strike began on July 1, initiated by sanitation workers from Republic Services who are demanding better pay and benefits.
