Jofra Archer’s return to Test cricket couldn’t have been much better as he claimed a wicket inside his first over.

The 30-year-old hadn’t bowled for England in Tests since February 2021 due to various injuries, but he lit up Lord’s against India.

With just his third ball back, the England star induced an edge from Yashasvi Jaiswal.

It went straight to second slip and was gathered by Harry Brook.

Archer charged off in pure joy and was mobbed by his teammates.

As well as taking the wicket, Archer didn’t concede a run and received a standing ovation from the whole of the home crowd.

It was a blockbuster return for the express fast bowler, and it got England’s defence of their 387 off to the perfect start.

After winning toss for a third Test in a row, Ben Stokes decided to bat.

Thanks to a 37th Test century from Joe Root and 50s from Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse, the home side did well to get close to 400.

And with Archer looking sharp, England will feel they can take a lead into their second innings as they look to go 2-1 up in the series.
