Forest say they never gave Spurs permission to hold talks with Gibbs-White and are suspicious over a breach of confidentiality regarding his £60m release clause.

Insiders at the City Ground regard the deal as being off as it stands.

Reports suggested Gibbs-White was set to undergo a medical at Tottenham on Friday before completing the move.

The midfielder enjoyed a superb season for Forest last term having helped the club qualify for the UEFA Conference League – their first venture into Europe in 30 years.
