Nick Kyrgios has recalled leaving an expensive bar tab under Rafael Nadal’s name as revenge for a thumping defeat to him.

Kyrgios stormed to the final of the 2017 China Open by dropping just a single set across four matches in Beijing.

Awaiting him was Nadal, who by that point had won 16 of his 22 Grand Slam titles, including that year’s French and US Opens.

The Spanish legend exhibited his world-class talent by winning 6-2 6-1 against his Australian opponent in a convincing victory.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Wimbledon: Unfiltered, Kyrgios revealed his post-match antics involving wine and a hefty hotel bill.

“He beat me in the final of Beijing, and he destroyed me. I was having a really good week, finals of Beijing, pretty big tournament,” Kyrgios said.

“I get destroyed by Nadal. Having a couple of wines that night, having a couple of drinks with my boys. I was like, ‘You know what? This guy just destroyed me, probably earned over $1million that week.’

“I was like, ‘You know what? I’m going to put all of my room service…’ It was actually in a hotel restaurant, I just put it on Nadal’s room and I just signed it as Nadal.

“The waitress had no idea so to this day, I’m sorry Rafa if you got this outstanding couple grand bill from me.

“I’m sorry… Actually, I’m not sorry at all, you’ve earned way too much cash in your career.”

Kyrgios added: “I’ve actually never told anyone that… He has no idea.

“To be honest, me and Nadal didn’t speak much in our career, pretty much not at all, really.”

The 2017 China Open final was the fifth match between Kyrgios and Nadal, the latter of which won six of their total ten meetings.

Kyrgios won the first in 2014 with a 7-6 [7-5] 5-7 7-6 [7-5] 6-3 triumph in the last 16 at Wimbledon, the Aussie doing so as a wildcard entry.

It helped him become one of three players to beat the ‘Big Three’ – Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Nadal – at the first time of asking.

Only Dominik Hrbaty and Lleyton Hewitt have done the same.

Nadal then beat him in Rome and Madrid, before a clash in Cincinnati ended in favour of Kyrgios.

He later won in Acapulco after Beijing, but three successive wins for Nadal followed at Wimbledon, the Australian Open and Indian Wells.

A 2022 Wimbledon semi-final was due to be their most recent clash on the court.

But Nadal withdrew due to injury, with Kyrgios losing to Djokovic over four sets in the final.
