Alex Rodriguez has big plans.

The former New York Yankee great and Minnesota Timberwolves co-owner is looking to give back to his country of heritage, the Dominican Republic.

Rodriguez is set to invest $1billion towards a major real estate development in the Río San Juan and Cabrera area that will consist of  577 ‘ultra-luxe’ units, including both villas and condominium units.

He is teaming up with Tourism Minister David Collado to help lead the project.

The two shared their excitement in the official press release announcing the project.

“This investment is an unprecedented initiative for our country that will bring extraordinary growth to luxury tourism in our country and for the northern region and the communities of Río San Juan and Cabrera,” Collado said.

Rodriguez echoed his partner’s sentiments.

“I love the Dominican Republic. It’s my country,” he said.

“And being able to participate in such an iconic project will attract the world’s most influential people to come to the Dominican Republic and enjoy the exclusivity of Playa Grande and the warmth and good vibes of the Dominican people.”

“From tourism, we keep attracting investment and generating development,” Collado told the Caribbean Journal. “The Dominican Republic is in vogue.”

While Rodriguez was born in New York City, both of his parents are from the DR, and he is now going to give back in a colossal way.

Everything seems to be going the former AL MVP’s way lately.

Rodriguez became a pinstripe legendGetty The former Yankee great has a reported net worth of $350mGetty

This past spring, former Timberwolves owner, Glen Taylor, agreed to sell 100 per cent of ownership to Rodriguez and Marc Lore.

It was a complicated sale that had been going on over the last few years but finally reached a resolution.

The two sides originally agreed to the $1.5bn price in 2021, and four years later, after a few various obstacles, have finally made it official.

According to Forbes, the franchise itself is worth $3.1bn, so Rodriguez and Lore seem to have received a pretty good deal.

The man famously known simply as A-Rod, rose to fame and stardom as one of baseball’s most popular figures in the early 1990s when he arrived to play for the Seattle Mariners, before leaving for the Texas Rangers and eventually, the Yankees.

From there, his fortune and popularity exploded through the roof.

Rodriguez was a 14-time All-Star and three-time AL MVP, twice with New York.

He helped the Yankees win their last World Series championship, back in 2009, and eventually retired in 2016.

By the time he hung up the cleats and put the bat down, Rodriguez was the highest career earnings in MLB history with $399,285,104.

He has since been passed by Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera.

However, A-Rod wasn’t just known for what he did on the field. He found himself in the spotlight away from the diamond plenty of times, including his very public relationship with his ex-girlfriend.

And one of the world’s biggest celebrities – singer and actor, Jennifer Lopez.

Lopez and Rodriguez were one of the most popular couples in the worldGetty

Rodriguez and Lopez began dating in early 2017, where the two reportedly hit it off. They were engaged two years later.

However, in April 2021 they called off the engagement and ended their relationship with one another.

The beat has seemed to go on for Rodriguez, as he acquired an NBA team to his business portfolio and is now helping lead one of the biggest real estate projects the Dominican Republic has ever seen.
