ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Yellow Alert remains up through 6PM, mainly in the southern Finger Lakes and Southern Tier, for the potential for a few slow moving gusty thunderstorms. The threat for stronger storms is low, but a few storms may produce some gusty winds and lightning. If you have plans outdoors for the rest of Thursday, don’t cancel them! But do have a way to get alerts and radar (the First Alert Weather app) in case some storms do fire. Closer to Rochester, we may see a few showers or a storm, but these should largely remain just “garden variety” thunder and showers.
Any showers and storms fade through the first part of Thursday night, with a partly to mostly cloudy sky and muggy conditions. Friday will also feature a mix of clouds and sunshine, seasonable mild air, and the slight chance of a pop up afternoon shower or thundershower.
Then we crank the heat up again this weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday will feature temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s, with increased humidity. Saturday should be mainly dry. The only chance of a storm would come with the arrival of the warm front, but those chances appear small. Sunday has a much better chance of showers and storms with the arrival of a cold front. We’ll need to monitor the timing of the front for the potential for some stronger storms.
That cold front slowly moves through Monday morning, taking any rain and storms with it. Tuesday looks nice with lower humidity, while we may make a run at 90 again by Wednesday.
