The Committee for Investigating the Fate of the Children of Detainees and the Forcibly Disappeared has allocated two hotlines to provide legal consultations to families of missing children, and to allow individuals with relevant information or documents to share them.
In two consecutive posts on its social media platforms today, Thursday, July 10, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor specified a separate number for each purpose.
The committee called on all citizens who possess information or documents related to missing children and wish to share them to contact the following hotline: +963947954641.
It also urged families of missing children who have questions or need legal consultations related to cases of disappearance or enforced disappearance to contact the following number: +963947956144.
The committee stated that all calls will be recorded to ensure accuracy and legal follow-up, while maintaining the confidentiality and privacy of callers.
Mechanisms and Plans to Determine Their Fate
The committee had previously held a press conference on July 8 to explain the mechanisms and future plans for investigating the fate of children of detainees held in Assad regime prisons, identifying suspected parties, and outlining how the issue will be addressed.
During the conference, committee chairperson Raghda Zeidan explained that the committee includes representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Endowments, and Justice, along with civil society organizations, families of the missing, and a number of human rights and enforced disappearance specialists. The committee is led by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor to ensure coordination and clear distribution of responsibilities among involved parties.
Zeidan stressed the importance of integrating efforts across all relevant ministries and entities to achieve professional results and reveal the fate of each missing child.
Samir Qurbi, a representative from the Ministry of Interior, stated that the arrest of some care center employees was based on preliminary information and personal claims from families who reported a lack of cooperation by staff, as well as their refusal to share or disclose information about the children, raising suspicions of possible misconduct or violations related to the children’s fate.
Qurbi added that the committee has begun its work by developing plans to identify the number of children who were transferred to care centers and to uncover the fate of those children. He noted that the committee’s mission is to search, count, and determine the fate of children who were disappeared in the prisons of the ousted regime.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior had arrested two former Ministers of Social Affairs, Kinda al-Shammat and Rima al-Qadri, along with several female employees in care institutions, as part of an official investigation into the fate of detained and forcibly disappeared children in the regime’s prisons and their alleged transfer to orphanages without the knowledge of their families.
The Ministry of Interior’s media office confirmed to Enab Baladi on July 6 that the arrests were based on preliminary evidence and testimonies from relatives of detainees and disappeared persons, which were collected jointly by the Ministries of Interior and Social Affairs following the formation of a specialized investigative committee.
