The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently shared a Facebook post reminding travelers of the rules surrounding this specific food.

In the wake of National Sugar Cookie Day, the security authority revealed the guidance if you’re “headed to the airport with kiddos and cookies in tow”.

According to the TSA regulations, it is officially “sweet news” for any cookie fans.

Sweet treat rules

“Sugar cookies are cleared for takeoff,” the TSA wrote in the social media post.

“Whether they’re shaped like stars, dinosaurs, or ‘just one more,’ solid cookies can fly in carry-on or checked bags.”

However, while the sweet treats have been given the green light, there is a restriction to keep in mind.

“If you’re packing tubs of frosting, homemade dough, or any spreadable sweetness, that’s a sticky situation,” the TSA warned.

They explained that this food item falls under the liquids restrictions for carry on items.

“Those will need to follow the liquids rule of 3.4 ounces or less, in a quart-sized bag, and one bag per passenger,” the security pros said.

And if you’re a frosting fiend, don’t stress to much as this sweet ingredient can still be packed in your checked luggage.

Just be sure to check the customs regulations if you’re headed to destination outside mainland US.

The TSA also reminded travelers to “PackSmart and [be] crumb prepared”.

Confusion

However, some flyers were left more confused than ever as they commented on the Facebook post.

“How is dough considered a liquid/gel? You can’t pour it,” pointed out one commenter.

“It’s one of those ‘gray area’ items,” agreed another baffled Facebook user.

TSA's 3-1-1 rule

The Transportation Security Administration regulates the amount of liquids, aerosols, and gels that flyers can bring through airport security with the 3-1-1 liquids rule.

The 3-1-1 rule consists of the following:

Each container of liquid has to be 3.4 ounces or less.

All liquids have to fit in one clear, quart-sized, resealable bag.

Finally, passengers can only bring one bag of liquids each.

“You may be able to take it some places and others not. It would be best to freeze it yes. It’s a ‘moldable’ in the TSA term world.”

“It needs a container to keep it’s shape, if it is spreadable, or pourable, it’s a no-go,” wrote a third person.

More TSA rules

Plus, the TSA warned travelers of the banned food list ahead of the summer travel season.

They also reminded flyers about a rule regarding a common grooming product.

Plus, a popular fifteen-minute airport theory has been slammed by travel experts.

And a common TSA procedure has officially been scrapped after almost two decades.
