At long last, the Health Connect app is expanding its "sharing data" function, allowing Android users to sync up their health information across multiple apps. The announcement came during Google's developer livestream at I/O 2025. Now, Google says Health Connect will pick up Runna, Mi Fitness, and Garmin. Here's what you need to know.
Wait, you couldn't sync your health data to Garmin before?
Apparently not! My colleague Beth Skwarecki shared with me this screenshot of her Connected Apps screen in her Garmin settings on her iPhone, versus her husband's Android. As you can see, Apple Health is connected to Garmin on the iPhone, but there's no Health Connect for Garmin on the Android.

Sharing your Garmin Connect data with Health Connect
Here's all the data your Garmin Connect account can send to your Health Connect. Two things to note: First, this feature is only available on Android 14 and above. Second, this is a one-way transfer from Garmin to your Android; Garmin will not read any data from Health Connect.
Cycling pedal cadence
Elevation gained
Speed
Swimming strokes
Wellness data
Total calories burned
Heart rate
Steps and step distance
Once enabled, Garmin Connect syncs data to Health Connect after each successful device sync.
Garmin support should come later this month
This post was originally published in June 4, 2025, when Google announced this feature was planned, and was updated on July 9, 2025 when it went live.
