ReMind magazine reported that Patrick spoke about filming the 1955 movie, The Long Gray Line during the MidSouth Nostalgia Festival in June 2025. He noted that one of his castmates was actress Maureen O’Hara, who co-starred with his famous father in several films, including Rio Grande and The Quiet Man. Patrick, who was fifteen at the time of filming the movie, said his on-screen kiss with O'Hara was the first time he locked lips with anyone.
Patrick also shared he had interacted with O'Hara when she and his father filmed The Quiet Man.
In addition, Patrick suggested he began acting to be closer to his late father, who died in 1979.
Patrick discussed his acting career in an interview with the official John Wayne website. In the interview, the 85-year-old listed the projects he was most "satisfied" with.
"I did an action adventure film for Disney called The Bears and I. You’re working with animals who don’t read scripts or memorize dialogue. Everything is pretty much ad-libbed, and you go with the flow and deal with the animals. That project came out really well," said Patrick during the interview. "Also, the Sinbad film [Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger] I worked on with characters that weren’t present, doing a lot of choreography and pantomime, worked out well."
