ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man is due to be sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty to a hit-and-run that killed a woman while she was sitting outside a bar on West Avenue.

Paolo Smith turned himself in a week after the crash outside P.I.’s Number One Lounge last August, which was caught on surveillance video. A car backed up into 46-year-old Lashawnda Leggett just before midnight with enough force to smash a wall. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Family members described Leggett as a loving, kind person who never spoke ill of anyone. Smith was charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of a deadly crash. News10NBC is working to learn what charges he pleaded guilty to. He will be sentenced in Monroe County Court.
