Katie Thurston gave an update on her treatment plan amid her ongoing breast cancer battle.
“Today is my three month scan check-in. First time since starting my treatment plan,” the former Bachelorette wrote via her Instagram Story on Monday, July 7. “We will find out if the tumors are stable (no growth) or even possibly shrinking!”
Thurston added that as long as her scans looked “good,” she could “continue” with her current treatment plan. However, she explained that the option of ending treatment is not going to be something she’ll be able to do.
“As a stage 4 girly, I’ll be on a treatment plan for life, so it’s a win when something is working,” she continued. “It’s also why funding is so important for breast cancer research, because some of us run out of options for treatment.”

Thurston asked her followers for “positive thoughts, prayers, energy, spells,” and whatever else they might have for her.
Thurston revealed in February that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The following month, the cancer spread to her liver, which put Thurston in stage 4. While the news wasn’t something she was expecting, Thurston shared that she was optimistic in the wake of her diagnosis.
“I know stage four can sound very scary, and it can be,” she said in a March Instagram video. “However, given that I am triple positive and the spots on my liver are fairly small and detected early, I feel very optimistic on my outcome.”
Before her check-in on Monday, Thurston was on vacation in Greece with husband Jeff Arcuri. While gearing up to leave, Thurston opened up about how she was preparing for her upcoming doctor’s appointment.
“We go home today, and oftentimes when I’m entering back into reality of cancer, that’s when things kind of start to hit,” she said in an Instagram video on Thursday, July 3. “When those monthly scans or appointments come and go, I allow myself the next 28 days to really forget that I have cancer.”

Thurston added that she and her oncologist have never discussed how much time she has “left.”
“Stage 4 is a very scary mentality at times, because it is forever,” she reflected while noting that she continues to live her life to the fullest.
“I enjoyed wine. I enjoyed the sugars, you know, the desserts. I enjoyed the memories that I’m making,” she said of her time in Greece. “Because what’s the point of not living when you’re given today? You know, when you’re given life? And that’s how I feel every day, I’m just like, ‘Thank you.’ Every night I go to bed, I’m like, ‘Thank you for giving me today.’”
