2025 has already offered a fair few astronomical delights from February’s seven planetary parade to April’s Lyrid Meteor Shower.
We take a look at all the detail’s for this month’s lunar display.
Known as the Buck Moon, it is the first full moon of the astronomical summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
Due to its proximity to the horizon, it will also appear to be larger than usual which is called the “moon illusion”.
The phases are determined by the positions of the sun, Earth and moon relative to each other.

The name is derived from male deer, known as bucks, which shed their antlers every year.
Some people also call it the thunder moon, a reference to summer storms, or the hay moon, after the July hay harvest.
