Chatham County Sheriff: 2 Boaters Missing at Jordan Lake ...Middle East

News by : (chapelboro) -

A search is underway for two missing boaters last seen Sunday afternoon at the Martha’s Chapel Road canoe access on Jordan Lake, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said Monday morning.

The two individuals reportedly were last observed entering the water around 5 p.m. The sheriff’s office said the unoccupied canoe was recovered later in the evening, but the boaters remain missing.

“We are doing everything we can to bring these individuals home,” said sheriff Mike Roberson. “Our hearts are with their loved ones during this difficult time, and we are grateful for the assistance from our neighboring agencies.”

Search efforts resumed early Monday. Officials are urging the public to avoid the area of the Farrington Point Boat Ramp, located at 605 Farrington Point Road in Chapel Hill, while emergency crews operate in the area.

The search comes after Tropical Depression Chantal slammed into central North Carolina Sunday night, dropping up to 10 inches of rain across the region.
