After scoring 1014 runs across both innings of the Birmingham Test, India claimed their biggest win over a team outside India, as they won the match by a huge margin of 336 runs.
Nasser Hussain criticized Gill's captaincy after the conclusion of the first Test at Headingley. He said:

Shubman Gill had done it right with a shed of runs
Shubman Gill scored a pile of runs as he has built onto 430 runs in the match, after scoring a double century in the first inning and following it with a 161 in the second inning of play.
“The most important thing is to get runs. That's his number one job, and he's got a shed load of runs,” said the former England veteran.
