ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Marquis Grissom Jr., the Rochester Red Wings’ lone All-Star pick, has been making waves in the minors. News10NBC’s Ian Mills spoke with the 23-year-old righty reliever about his recent performance.

“Good team effort,” said manager Matt LeCroy.
Grissom Jr. contributed to the win with a five-out save, showcasing his growing confidence and the team’s trust in him.
“I can get some more opportunities like that, but I got to keep putting the work in,” Grissom said.
LeCroy praised Grissom’s recent outings, noting his improvement since joining Triple-A.
“[His confidence level] should be really good. His last two outings have been the two best that I’ve seen him here at Triple-A,” LeCroy said.
Grissom Jr. initially struggled, giving up 11 runs in 11 innings during his first month. However, he has since bounced back, aligning with his dominant pro stats.
“Fastball starting to tick up a little bit as threw some 94, 95. He’s got an out-pitch in the changeup in the big leagues,” LeCroy said.
Grissom’s impressive play at Innovative Field has earned him a spot in Major League Baseball’s Futures All-Star Game in Atlanta with the National League.
“I’m excited for my dad to be on the other side in this in Atlanta, so I’m excited to go home and play in front of my family and friends,” Grissom said.
Grissom will face off against his father, a World Series champion and manager for the American League, in the game.
“Talking trash. Oh, a whole bunch of stuff. He excited for me too. I know he wants me to make a name for myself, so he’s excited for me. But he’s also gonna talk that trash. It’s been a lot,” Grissom said.
The two are scheduled to face off on Saturday, July 12.
