Manchester United are weighing up a move to sign free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The 28-year-old is available on a free transfer after he departed Everton following the expiration of his contract.
Calvert-Lewin is searching for a new club after his Everton departureGettyUnited look set for a major overhaul of their forward line this summer, as they look to offload a number of attackers.
Head coach Ruben Amorim has identified five current players who he is happy to see move on, with Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony all in the firing line.
Having already snapped up Wolves striker Matheus Cunha for £62.5million and bid the same figure for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, the Red Devils must balance their books as they look to rebuild their attack.
Calvert-Lewin could be a good way to juggle the club’s finances and boost their forward options.
talkSPORT understands that he is on their list of options this summer.
This comes after the Red Devils look to have lost their battle with Arsenal to land Sporting Lisbon goal machine Viktor Gyokeres.
talkSPORT understands the Gunners are closing in on the 27-year-old, having agreed terms on a five-year deal, with both camps confident over a move to the Emirates.
United had been keen on the Sweden international, where he would have linked up with former Sporting manager Amorim.
Despite missing out on their number one target however, a move for Calvert-Lewin could tick several boxes for United.
If they manage to balance their books successfully, it could create a gap in Amorim’s squad for a new man who can lead the line but would also be happy to be a back-up forward.
Ruben Amorim is desperate to bolster United’s attack this summerGetty The Red Devils have already snapped up Matheus Cunha from Wolves, who netted 15 Premier League goals last termGettyAnd the Premier League giants believe this is a role Calvert-Lewin has the quality to fill, while the demands of being third of fourth choice could suit him given his fitness record.
The England international was a hot property when he scored double figures in successive seasons for Everton from 2019 to 2021 before finding his progress hampered by injuries.
United could offer him a lucrative contract, including appearance bonuses, in a deal to suit both parties.
This could prove a deal-breaker for Calvert-Lewin, whose wage demands recently prompted Leeds to walk away from a deal.
The Premier League new boys had previously been keen on the frontman, and had spoken to him in June regarding terms, only to find themselves unable to offer the money he wanted.
It was previously understood that Calvert-Lewin is keen to join a club that will give him the opportunity to play European football.
Calvert-Lewin is one of Everton’s greatest players in the Premier League eraGettyHe could also reportedly be attracted to a Premier League club that isn’t likely to be threatened by relegation, something United will hope to avoid, despite finishing a record-low 15th in the league last term.
Calvert-Lewin joined Everton in 2016 from his boyhood club Sheffield United for a reported £1.5million fee.
Across 273 appearances in all competitions, he reached 71 goals and 22 assists for the Toffees.
He netted 16 goals in their 2020/21 league campaign and was named as the club’s Player of the Season.
Calvert-Lewin ranks third in Everton’s all-time Premier League scoring charts behind legend Duncan Ferguson and leader Romelu Lukaku.
As for United, it was reported on Friday that Sancho, Rashford, Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia all want to leave Old Trafford.
