Rishabh was given the role of a wicket-keeper batsman in the side and was also picked as the skipper of the side. He replaced KL Rahul in the team, who played the previous season in a similar role.
He has played 14 matches and scored 269 runs, of which 118 runs came in the last match against RCB. Before that, Pant just had one fifty in the season. Pant's strike rate throughout the disappointing season remained 133.17.

Rishabh returned to the Indian side with a commanding ton in the first innings of the Test at Headingley and then followed it with another ton in the second innings of the game. He was the first Indian wicket-keeper batter with twin hundreds in England.
