ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester City School District is asking for feedback on its electronic device policy before the state’s restrictions on smartphones in schools go into effect this fall.
RCSD is asking people to take a seven-question survey to provide feedback on the current plan to approach the state’s policy. You can take the survey here and see a draft of RCSD’s electronic devices policy here.
There will also be a meeting on Tuesday, July 8, on the policy. The meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the central office on 131 West Broad Street, room 3A/B. If you would like to speak, you can email PublicHearing@rcsdk12.org or call the Board of Education at (585)-262-8525. The deadline to register is the afternoon of July 8.
As News10NBC has covered, Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation banning smartphones or other internet-enabled devices in grades kindergarten through 12th for the entire school day, unless in an emergency. The policy impacts all school districts, charter schools, and BOCES schools.
All schools must publish a plan by Aug. 1 on how they will implement the policy.
