Burnet County first responders working multiple water rescues ...Middle East

AUSTIN (KXAN) — First responders in Burnet County are operating in full effect Saturday with nearly 20 water rescues underway as flood waters move through Central Texas.

According to the Burnet County Office of Emergency Management, first responders were working 18 different water rescues in the area.

The office said several roadways in the area were inaccessible. Those roadways include:

Highway 29 to Hamilton Creek Between Burnet and Bertram

The city of Burnet said those affected by flooding or in need of a safe place to go, the Burnet Community Center, located at 401 East Jackson Street, was open for evacuations.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Flash Flood emergency was put into effect for Burnet County shortly after 5 a.m.

NWS said so far, 5-12” of rain has occurred, and an additional 2-5” was possible.

“This is a Particularly Dangerous Situation with life-threatening flash flooding. Seek higher ground if near a flooded creek or stream,” NWS said.

City and county officials recommended that those who do not need to be out should shelter in place if it is safe to do so.

"Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways or low water crossings- it only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle away," the city said. "Avoiding unnecessary travel helps keep everyone safe and allows first responders to reach those who need help."
