With many out celebrating Independence Day on Friday, several places will be closed for the summer holiday.

So where will you not be able to go for the Fourth of July?

Here’s what’s open and closed July 4.

What’s closed for the Fourth of July?

Grocery stores

Costco will be closed for the holiday.

USPS, government offices, mail delivery

Independence Day is a federal holiday, and government offices, courthouses, post offices and schools will be closed Friday. There will also be no mail delivery.

Some FedEx offices will close or see modified hours, and no pickup or delivery services will be offered. UPS also will not offer pickup or delivery, and some locations will be closed.

DMVs

Illinois states offices, including Secretary of State’s Offices, will also be closed.

Garbage collection

This week, garbage collection may be on a different schedule. Check with your local suburban municipality or check the Chicago garbage collection schedule.

Banks, the stock market

The Federal Reserve considers July 4 a holiday, so the majority of banks are closed. Most ATMs will still be available, however.  

The U.S. stock markets closed early at 1 p.m. on July 3 and remain closed through the holiday.

Which stores are open?

Many stores will remain open, but with adjusted hours for the holiday:

Apple: Stores are open, but many have reduced hours. Check your store’s hours here. Best Buy: Most locations are open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dick’s Sporting Goods: Check your store’s hours here. JCPenny: Stores are open. Check your location’s hours here. Kohl’s: Most stores will close early. Check your location’s hours here. Lowe’s: Most stores close at 8 p.m. Marshalls: Most stores close at 8 p.m. Menards: Most stores close at 8 p.m. Sephora: Most stores close early. Check your location’s hours here. The Home Depot: Most stores close at 8 p.m. T.J. Maxx: Most stores close at 8 p.m. Ulta: Most stores close at 6 p.m.

Sam’s Club: Stores will close at 6 p.m. Trader Joe’s: Stores will close at 5 p.m. Tony’s Fresh Market: Stores will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Target: Stores will be open during normal business hours.
