Corbyn’s brand of chaos is an absolute gift to Keir Starmer ...Middle East

Instead of celebrating the first anniversary of Labour’s return to government, he found his premiership rocked by the biggest rebellion of his career, a humiliating climbdown over welfare reform, and his Chancellor bursting into tears in full view at PMQs.

Except, not quite.

Now, a week that should have left Starmer on the ropes instead ends with his internal critics looking confused and divided. The man may well be cracking open a cold one as we speak.

Corbyn, like Nigel Farage, is a divisive figure, but a well-organised vehicle with his name attached might well have surged, pulling in disillusioned voters, especially the young, who feel disillusioned with Labour. Corbyn may be unpalatable to some, but he won 40 per cent of the vote in 2017, compared to the 34 per cent which propelled Starmer into Downing Street.

And look at the recent teachers, doctors and train strikes. While unions didn’t win every demand, their co-ordinated action forced meaningful concessions and secured improved pay offers – proof that focused, collective effort can still shift the political landscape.

But moments like this, where real opportunity descends into confusion, show how fragile that potential remains. A left-wing challenger party cannot rely on the strength of feeling alone. It must learn to organise first.
