Katz reported Wednesday that the Rockets and Suns are working on expanding the trade that would involve an NBA-record seven teams.

While a deal is not imminent, Katz added that the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angels Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves are involved in trade discussions. As part of the trade, the Hawks would send Clint Capela to the Rockets in a sign-and-trade.

Katz said that most of the recognizable names involved in a potential seven-team trade, including Durant, Capela, Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green, have been agreed to and reported but not yet finalized.

The previous record for most teams involved in a trade in NBA history was in 2024 when the Warriors traded Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in a deal that involved six teams.

Timeline for Kevin Durant trade

ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported on June 22 that Durant was traded to the Rockets for Green, Brooks, Houston’s No. 10 overall pick and five second-round picks. Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro confirmed the trade. The trade will not be official until July 6.

The Rockets, on behalf of the Suns, selected Duke center Khaman Maluach with the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
