Now, Luckin chiefs have opened two new stores in New York City.
One is located in Greenwich Village, while the second is situated on Sixth Avenue in the city’s NoMad district.
In a bid to attract customers, bosses have launched a 99-cent drinks promo.
Staffers handed out tote bags to the first 100 customers.
Luckin Coffee teased its arrival ahead of the store openings.
“Luckin Coffee is taking over the city,” the company boasted in an Instagram post.
Diners were urged to download the Luckin Coffee app to redeem special deals.
The brand’s arrival thrilled customers.
One even called for the company to open stores in Texas.
Chiefs have been tight-lipped on new stores, but the post calling for locations in the Lone Star state was liked by the admins of the Instagram account.
“A new brew has entered the chat,” the Luckin Coffee US Instagram page states.
The launch of the two stores was described as a soft opening.
Meanwhile, Starbucks bosses have been making a series of changes.
Around 1,000 coffeehouses are being renovated into locations fit for the future.
Coffeehouses will be fitted with new chairs, tables and power points.
“It’s creating comfortable seating where people want to come in, it’s not just the quick grab and go concept,” Mike Grams, Starbucks’ chief operating officer, told CNN.
“Maybe over past years, we lost our way a little bit on that.”
Once the 1,000 stores have been renovated, the changes will be rolled out on a more widespread basis.
Brian Niccol was appointed Starbucks CEO in September and outlined his plans for the chain in a letter to customers.
“We’re getting back to Starbucks,” he vowed.
He identified four areas for the company to improve.
Niccol promised the company would deliver “outstanding drinks on time” and stressed the importance of communicating the brand’s story.
One significant change was the plans to streamline menus by 30%.
He has also vowed to get customer wait times down to just four minutes.
