The Fourth of July is coming up this Friday, which means that Chapel Hill will once again put on a fireworks show at Southern Community Park. Here’s everything you need to know before attending:
Parking:
The fireworks will begin at 9:20 p.m., and attendants can begin parking at Southern Community Park at 7 p.m.
There will be limited parking available at the Southern Village park and ride lot, as well as within Southern Village. However, due to the low number of spots on sight, organizers are encouraging attendees to use the Jackson Deck shuttle. Parking along 15-501 is not allowed. Accessible parking will be located at the lot closest to the Southern Community Park pavilion.
Shuttle:
A shuttle will run from Jackson Deck at UNC Hospitals to the Southern Village park and ride. It will be free, and will run from 6:00 p.m. until 8:45 p.m. The shuttle will pause service during the show, and will then run until 10:30 p.m.
What to bring and what not to bring:
Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring picnic gear in order to remain comfortable. Coolers, blankets and chairs are all allowed, and will be allowed on the shuttle from Jackson Deck. They’re also encouraging people to bring water, as it will not be provided.
Prohibited items include tents, glass or alcohol of any kind, and tailgates. Pets will not be allowed to attend.

Attendees can also catch the fireworks from the Southern Village Green, directly across from the Lumina Theater. Mary Scroggs Elementary School property will not be open for viewing, and is within the “fall-out zone” underneath the fireworks.
