Sexual assault lawsuit against BYU QB Jake Retzlaff dismissed ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff was the subject of some serious accusations, but a civil lawsuit against the player is being dismissed.

On Sunday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Retzlaff was entering the transfer portal and was informing BYU of his intentions to leave the program. A civil lawsuit was filed against Retzlaff in May with an individual identified as “Jane Doe AG” accusing Retzlaff of sexual assault during a 2023 exchange at his Provo, Utah home.

According to additional reporting from The Salt Lake Tribune, a legal response filed by Retzlaff’s camp admitted to premarital sex but claimed the encounter was consensual. Premarital sex is against BYU’s honor code, and The Tribune reported the QB was looking at a 7-game suspension for violating the honor code.

On Monday, joint reporting from Thamel and Kyle Bonagura revealed that the lawsuit against Retzlaff was being dismissed. Bonagura later shared the official statement and filing, revealing it was a joint motion to dismiss the case:

The parties, by & through their counsel of record, hereby stipulate, agree, & jointly move the Court to dismiss with prejudice and upon the merits the Plaintiff’s complaint against the Defendant, w/ each party to bear his or its own attorney’s fees.
