Anyone who thought Bayern Munich were going to cruise their way through the Club World Cup following their 10-0 win over part-timers Auckland City would have been sadly mistaken and Vincent Kompany’s team could meet the end of the road when they face Brazilian side Flamengo in the last 16.
The Bundesliga champions needed a late goal from Michael Olise to see off Boca Juniors and were then sunk 1-0 by Benfica in their final group outing, so they have yet to really hit their stride.
That makes them vulnerable against Flamengo, who have already registered a 3-1 victory over Chelsea and the Brazilian tabletoppers, who are well into their domestic season rather than jaded following the demands of the recent campaign, could have more staying power and come through if they manage to take the game to extra-time.

Vancouver Whitecaps to beat Los Angeles FC – 31/10
Los Angeles FC gained a last-minute invitation to the Club World Cup after they beat Mexican side Club America in a play-off, but they did not have the most enjoyable of experiences and that may have taken its toll.
LA were unable to score a goal against Chelsea and African side Esperance Tunis in their opening two games and, while they did draw with Flamengo, their Brazilian opponents were already assured of a place in the last 16, so they were hardly going at it full throttle.
The strain of those outings could tell when they return to Major League Soccer in the early hours of Monday morning to face Vancouver.
The Whitecaps have lost their last two MLS games against Columbus Crew and San Diego, but they were unbeaten in their previous 11 league outings, so they can cause a surprise on their trip to the City of Angels.
