Two motorcyclists died in a crash on Friday along a state highway in Chicago’s southwest suburbs, Illinois State Police said.
Authorities said state troopers responded to a fatal crash involving two motorcycles at around 9:51 p.m. on Illinois 394 near Dyer Road. One of the motorcyclists, Justin Fasnacht, 22, of Crown Point, Indiana, was transported to an area hospital, where he died, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
The second motorcyclist, Sarah Gudeman, 24, also of northwest Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office stated.
Police investigators determined both motorcyclists were traveling northbound on Illinois 394 when Fasnacht rear-ended Gudeman. The roadway was closed for several hours while law enforcement conducted an investigation, but reopened early Saturday morning.
What caused Fasnacht to rear-end Gudeman remained unclear. The investigation remained underway as of Saturday evening.
