Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd and five-star signee Koa Peat are getting on the same page before their season in Tucson by competing at the FIBA U19 World Cup, where Peat had a double-double in Team USA’s opening win.
The Gilbert Perry High standout had 17 points, going 6-for-11 on field goals, adding 10 rebounds and a blocked shot in the 88-73 win over Australia.
He was the only player in double figures for Team USA at the half with 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting.

But it was off the score sheet where Peat shined. The 6-foot-8 forward was in the right place on almost every play when he was on the floor, showing that he has a cerebral approach to the game well beyond his years as a basketball player.
Koa Peat and Team USA squad redemption tour
Lloyd, coaching the U19 squad for the first time, and Peat will be on a redemption tour for Team USA after the Americans failed to medal in 2023 without either Wildcat.
Spain took the gold in 2023 after USA had won four of the previous five U19 World Cups.
Peat will be going for his third gold medal in a row in international competitions, as he previously won his last two with the U17 teams.
Team USA features not only Peat, but also the No. 1 incoming freshman in the nation, BYU’s AJ Dybantsa who finished with a team-high 18 points.
