Anna Wintour is stepping down from her position as editor in chief at Vogue.
Wintour, 75, announced in a staff meeting that she will be stepping down from Vogue and seeing a new head of editorial content on Thursday, June 25, per WWD.
According to Daily Mail, Wintour will remain as Condé Nast’s global chief content officer and Vogue’s global editor.
Wintour served as Vogue’s editor in chief for 37 years, starting her gig in 1988. She evolved the magazine’s focus to extend beyond just fashion, blending in pop culture, art, technology and more.

In 2012, she reflected on her first-ever cover, which Israeli model Michaela Bercu posed for.
“It looked easy, casual, a moment that had been snapped on the street, which it had been, and which was the whole point,” Wintour wrote in the magazine of Bercu’s laid-back street style cover.
Wintour shared that the photo surprisingly broke the internet and people started sharing their interpretations — that Bercu’s haute couture Christian Lacroix cross sweater was a religious statement, that it was “mixing high and low” fashion and more. “But none of these things was true. I had just looked at that picture and sensed the winds of change. And you can’t ask for more from a cover image than that,” Wintour wrote, proving just how keen her eye for fashion was.
During her stint as editor in chief, Wintour featured many stars on the cover of Vogue. Her first celebrity cover was Madonna in 1989, and she later showcased Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and more.
She also has a significant role in the annual Met Gala, which she cochairs alongside Hollywood’s favorites. Wintour organizes the event, helps decide on a theme and dress code, executes the guest list and oversees the evening.
Through the years, Wintour has been candid about her love for the gala, most recently discussing how moving the 2025 “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” event was.

“Each one is very different, but this one has been particularly moving and important,” she told ABC on while making her way up the famous steps of the Met. “At this moment in our political history the museum is putting such a spotlight on black style. These designers that are looked at in the exhibition, to me it’s about joy, and confidence, and creativity and confidence.”
Wintour has not yet made a public statement on her departure.
