‘Provoked’ Chiefs send warning to NFL with Patrick Mahomes weapon tipped to go ‘ballistic’ ...Middle East

Despite going 15-2 last season and reaching the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs offense lacked the kind of explosiveness that we’ve come to expect.

Prior to 2024, Andy Reid‘s team had established themselves as the NFL‘s newest dynasty by leaving a wake of destruction across a league that struggled to keep pace.

But after storming to back-to-back world championships, Kansas City’s chase for a historic three-peat came to a screeching halt in Super Bowl LIX, with a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

And the warning signs were already there.

While the Chiefs put 15 wins on the board, 11 of those came in dramatic one-score games, suggesting Patrick Mahomes & Co. were doing just enough to put their challengers away.

They also edged past the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game, winning 32-29 to reach the Super Bowl, where they were blown away.

Much of the Chiefs’ struggles on offense can be put down to the injuries their big weapons sustained.

Wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, who arrived in March 2024, suffered a sternoclavicular injury during preseason and only returned in Week 16 after surgery.

Four weeks into the regular season, the Chiefs then lost another WR in Rashee Rice, who went down with an injury after an interception thrown by Mahomes. He did not play again.

Meanwhile, running back Isiah Pacheco suffered a fractured fibula in Week 2 and missed 10 weeks.

Star tight end Travis Kelce also struggled with waning production last season.

His 823 yards and three touchdowns marked career lows — excluding a rookie season spent largely on the bench — and the impact he made throughout the season felt sparse compared to previous years.

Between Kelce’s struggles, and injury after injury on offense, it’s little surprise that Kansas City scraped plenty of close wins last year.

But expect a different story in 2025 — with Kelce returning after retirement speculation and second year star Xavier Worthy tipped to ‘go ballistic’ next season.

While he struggled early in his rookie campaign, racking up more than 35 yards in just three of his first nine games, he exploded down the stretch and finished the season as one of Mahomes’ top targets.

Bleacher Report have branded Worthy ‘under-rated’ thanks to his exploits, and suggested he will do even bigger things in 2025.

“During Day 1 of the 2024 draft, the Kansas City Chiefs pulled off one of the event’s shrewdest manoeuvres by trading up to No. 28 to secure speedster Xavier Worthy,” the outlet wrote.

“By trading with the Buffalo Bills for that draft slot, the back-to-back Super Bowl champions not only added a much-needed burner to their receiver room, but also denied their biggest in-conference threat a chance to land the talented Texas product.

“Given that fantastic end-of-season run and subsequent playoff showing — Worthy was one of the Chiefs’ best players during their run to the Super Bowl, catching 19 of his 21 targets for 287 yards and three scores in three postseason contests — it would be surprising if Worthy doesn’t go ballistic during his upcoming sophomore season.”

With Worthy and the Chiefs tipped to explode on offense in 2025, the rest of the NFL will surely be taking notice.

In fact, their rivals have also been sent a warning by Fox Sports reporter Ben Arthur, who believes Kansas City have been ‘provoked’ by Super Bowl humiliation, and will be ready to fight back.

“Following their humiliating Super Bowl LIX loss to the Eagles, the Chiefs are expected to have an edge in the new season,” Arthur wrote.

“Not only did Travis Kelce commit to play in 2025, but Kansas City will also have Rashee Rice back from an injured knee that cost him all but four games in 2024.”

There’s no doubt that coming up short in their quest for a three-peat would have hurt for the Chiefs.

But by the time Week 1 rolls around, Super Bowl heartbreak will be ancient history, and Kansas City will be looking to bite back.
